Americká skladateľka Ellen Fullman sa vo svojej tvorbe dlhodobo venuje skúmaniu prirodzeného ladenia (just intonation), harmonických tónov strún a samotnej fyziky zvuku. Na základe tohto výskumu vyvinula vlastný nástroj The Long String Instrument – sústavu desiatok metrov dlhých strún napnutých v priestore a ladených v systéme prirodzeného ladenia. Nástroj produkuje tón mimoriadne bohatý na alikvótne zložky a umožňuje počuť jemné harmonické vzťahy, ktoré na bežných nástrojoch často zostávajú skryté.

Nástroj sa stavia pre každé uvedenie na mieru priestoru, v ktorom je realizovaný, a jeho skonštruovanie a ladenie trvá minimálne 3 dni. Pre napnutie strún je potrebné záťaž rádovo v stovkách kilogramov.

Performerka hrá na nástroj tak, že kráča popri strunách a prstami po nich jemne prechádza po celej ich dĺžke – na nástroj hrá pozdĺžnym ťahom, na rozdiel od priečneho módu, ktorý využívajú všetky ostatné strunové nástroje.

Podľa miesta dotyku sa rozoznievajú rôzne harmonické tóny, ktoré vznikajú z pomerných delení dĺžky struny. Pri hre na viacerých strunách naraz sa tieto alikvóty začnú prekrývať a vytvárajú pomaly sa meniace akordické polia, v ktorých sa harmónia akoby neustále presúva a prelieva v závislosti od pohybu hráčky v priestore. Niektorí hovoria, že počúvať Long String Instrument je ako zažiť koncert zvnútra klavíra.

Ellen Fullman je americká skladateľka a performerka. Po absolvovaní Kansas City Art Institute v odbore sochárstvo začala v roku 1980 vo svojom ateliéri v St. Paul v Minnesote rozvíjať projekt The Long String Instrument. Inšpirovaná skladateľom a konštruktérom hudobných nástrojov Harrym Partchom a dielom Music on a Long Thin Wire od Alvina Luciera vytvorila rozsiahle dielo produkujúce drónové, organu podobné alikvótne tóny, ktoré sú vo svete zvuku rovnako jedinečné ako jej vlastná vízia nástroja.

ZDRUŽENIE OOO vzniklo na jar 2020 z potreby vytvorenia dedikovaného priestoru pre skúmanie sveta cez sound art, súčasnú hudbu a intermediálne umenie. Zakladajúci členovia sú hudobník, pedagóg a intermediálny umelec Fero Király a dramaturgička, kultúrna manažérka a performerka Eva Vozárová. Autorský a kurátorský záujem združenia sa sústreďuje na projekty, ktoré sa ponárajú do komplexných vzťahov medzi ľudskými a mimo-ľudskými bytosťami, zahŕňajúc oblasti akustickej ekológie, deep listening, environmentálnych a sociálnych tém a disciplíny ako antropológia, filozofia, matematika a ďalšie oblasti poznania. Ellen Fullman – The Long String Instrument

American composer Ellen Fullman has devoted her artistic practice to the exploration of just intonation, the harmonic overtones of strings, and the physics of sound itself. Based on this research, she developed her own instrument, The Long String Instrument—a system of strings stretching for dozens of metres through space and tuned according to the principles of just intonation. The instrument produces a tone exceptionally rich in overtones, making it possible to hear subtle harmonic relationships that often remain hidden on conventional instruments.

The instrument is custom-built for each performance in response to the specific architectural space in which it is presented. Its construction and tuning require a minimum of three days, while tensioning the strings demands counterweights amounting to several hundred kilograms.

The performer plays the instrument by walking alongside the strings, gently drawing her fingers along their entire length. Unlike all other string instruments, which are played across the strings, The Long String Instrument is played longitudinally.

Depending on the point of contact, different harmonic overtones emerge, generated through proportional divisions of the string's length. When several strings are played simultaneously, these overtone series begin to overlap, creating slowly shifting harmonic fields in which the harmony seems to flow and continuously transform in response to the performer's movement through space. Some have described listening to The Long String Instrument as experiencing a concert from inside a piano.

Ellen Fullman is an American composer and performer. After graduating in sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute, she began developing The Long String Instrument in 1980 in her studio in St. Paul, Minnesota. Inspired by composer and instrument builder Harry Partch and Alvin Lucier's Music on a Long Thin Wire, she created a large-scale work that produces sustained, organ-like overtone drones—sounds that are as singular within the world of music as her vision of the instrument itself.

OOO was founded in spring 2020 out of the need to create a dedicated space for exploring the world through sound art, contemporary music and intermedia art. Founding members are musician, educator and intermedia artist Fero Király and dramaturge, cultural manager and performer Eva Vozárová. The association's authorial and curatorial focus centers on projects that dive into complex relationships between human and non-human beings, covering areas such as acoustic ecology, deep listening, environmental and social issues, and disciplines like anthropology, philosophy, mathematics, and other fields of knowledge.
